The following work is part of the ‘Family Heartbeat’ series, produced for the Diploma Exhibition at Pontio’s WhiteBox in Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales, UK. It considers the ephemeral qualities of permanence and perception of it. I am interested in how our identity, as we perceive it, is connected to the roles and constructs we inhabit, believing them to be stable. Our identity’s relationship to these things seems unchanging, until challenged.
My challenge came from unbearable loss, resulting in a process of inquiry that involved me to confront my formed constructs, forcing me to question my perception of permanence. Picking up the fragments and traces of memories from my past, I piece them together to create something new, building new relationships with my identity and remembrances.
